Copylogic Limited is committed to leading the industry to minimise environmental impact at each stage of the product lifecycle.
The key points of its strategy to achieve this are:
- Minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible.
- Minimise toxic emissions through the selection and use of its fleet and the source of its power requirement.
- Actively promote recycling both internally and amongst its customers and suppliers.
- Meet or exceed all environmental legislation that relates to the company.
- Use an accredited program to offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our activities.
- Source and promote a range of suppliers and products to minimise the environmental impact of both production and distribution
Manufacturing: Copylogic use manufacturers ie. Kyocera which manufacture in their own factories which are part of an ISO14001 certified environmental management system. Use of resources including energy, water and raw materials is minimised and as much waste as possible is recycled. Kyocera group includes numerous business units, including a solar PV division which each year ships enough renewables generating capacity to more than compensate for the energy used for manufacturing in the entire group; by 2020 the ratio of renewables capacity to energy use is expected to exceed 3:1.
Transport: Kyocera uses packaging to ensure the optimum balance between minimum packaging size and maximum product protection. All packaging is made from recycled and recyclable cardboard and paper pump mould, no polystyrene is used. We use manufacturers who utilise the same ethos. International transport is by sea and domestic transport using canal and river barges where possible.
Product: Kyocera printers and multifunctional copiers are uniquely designed with long-life components to maximise service intervals and minimise the frequency of replacement. Unlike conventional printers which include their drum, developer and fuser unit in a composite cartridge that has to be replaced every time the toner runs out, Kyocera’s cartridge-free products have a consumable that contains only toner, the other parts being permanent service parts. This drastically reduces the amount of waste created through consumables replacement. Kyocera provides free of charge consumables recycling.
Another two significant impacts are paper and energy. Energy consumption is kept to a minimum of the use of energy-efficient print controllers and by toner powder designed to fuse to the paper at a lower heat. Double-sided and n-up printing are standard features to reduce paper use, and digital document solutions are available to reduce reliance on hard copy.
Disposal: Kyocera & Konica products are designed to be easily disassembled so that the separate materials can be recovered individually and put through the appropriate recycling process to achieve the highest quality. The entire device can be disassembled using a single screwdriver and plastic components simply clip together, with an arrow embossed to show where to apply pressure to unclip them. They are also embossed with the relevant material code.
Kyocera & Konica have an ISO 14001 certified environmental management system and its UK headquarters was awarded the SKA Gold environmental accreditation.
